A sentence must have one subject (S) and one verb (V).

 

Examples:

 

1. Engineers are needed for work on the new space program.

S: Engineers

V: Are needed

 

2. A schedule of the day’s events can be obtained at the front desk.

S: A schedule of the day’s events

V: Can be obtained

 

3. The box can be opened only with a special screwdriver.

S: The box

V: Can be opened

 

4. The papers in the wastebasket should be emptied into the trash can outside.

S: The papers

V: Should be emptied

 

5. The new machine is processed 50 percent more than the previous machine.

S: The new machine

V: is processed
